The Bittersweet Chocolate Shop is an on going interactive public performance in which participants are invited to exchange a heartache they have had in their life for a box of chocolates I hand make. Through this project, I aspire to create a space that values the struggles that we carry with us everyday but often set aside in order to be productive at work or in public. Given no restriction of what kind of heartache participants can use, I often receive humorous, poignant and heartbreaking stories of inner turbulence that is belied by a calm, put-together exterior. The people who participate in this project are brave enough to be stripped of their protective exterior and be vulnerable in sharing their experiences. I try to reward this.
